Standards:
3.3 Analyze characterization as delineated through a character's thoughts, words, speech patterns, and actions; the narrator's description; and the thoughts, words, and actions of other characters.
2.5 Write summaries of reading materials:
a. Include the main ideas and most significant details.
b. Use the student's own words, except for quotations.
c. Reflect underlying meaning, not just the superficial details.
Unit Goal:
Analyze character actions based on emotions in the text
Lesson Objective: The students will be able to analyze the main characters actions, justifying his current actions based on incidents in the novel

Formative: Graphic organizer
Materials: pages of the book, graphic organizer, pen or pencil

Through:Teacher will read through the novel “tears of a Tiger” stopping often to clarify events and to have students fill out a reading guide that allows them to interact with the novel by making inferences, questions and text connections. Beyond:Teacher will ask students to summarize the part of the story they just read, as well as visualize a part of the story they wish. Differentiation:
Students are placed in pairs at mixed ability levels. Students with higher levels are placed with students whose levels are not at theirs, as this will increase their ability to understand and reflect on the reading with a student helping to guide them. For the student who is higher, they will have the chance to improve their understanding by explaining it to somebody else.
